About the museum
The Muzej Belišće was founded on 13 April 1975, for the town’s 90th anniversary, in one of the oldest residential buildings of the Gutmann colony. It was set up by the Društvo prijatelja starina Belišće with material support from the Kombinat Belišće. The museum’s two buildings date from 1884 and 1885 and are two of the three surviving first residential buildings of the Gutmann colony.
The headquarters and the collections on industrial heritage are housed at Prilaz dr. Vilka Ivekovića 3, in a building that in the first half of the 20th century housed a Hungarian primary school and a gendarmerie station. In the second museum building, at Vijenac S. H. Gutmanna 15a, the display of collections on prehistory and on the culture and civic life of the Belišće area has been shown since 2016.
The personal collection of the Gutmann family is displayed in the restored Palača Gutmann. The Gutmann steam train, a composition of a locomotive and four carriages, stands after restoration in Željeznička ulica, on the former route of the Gutmann railway. The permanent exhibition “Industrijska baština grada Belišća” comprises 783 exhibits.
