Temporarily closed. The museum is closed to visitors by decision of the Ministry of Culture and Media until the structural renovation of the Vranyczany Palace is completed. The exhibition programme continues at the Galerija Josip Račić (Margaretska 3) and at the Oktogon (Ilica 5).

About the museum

The Nacionalni muzej moderne umjetnosti (National Museum of Modern Art), until recently known as the Moderna galerija (Modern Gallery), was founded in 1905 and is the central Zagreb institution for Croatian fine art of the 19th and 20th centuries and for contemporary art. Since 1934 it has been housed in the Vranyczany Palace on Hebrangova Street in Zagreb, a building erected in 1883 as a family palace.

The chronological display of the collection followed the development of national fine art and its links with international trends, and was shown on the second floor of the building. In parallel, the collection was presented through four exhibitions a year on the north-western wing of the first floor, based on curatorial research and interpretation.

Because of the structural renovation of the Vranyczany Palace, the museum was closed to visitors by decision of the Ministry of Culture and Media until the renovation is completed. In the meantime the collection can be viewed in the online programme Otkrijte!, and the exhibition programme continues at the Galerija Josip Račić and at the Oktogon on Ilica 5.
