About the museum

The Sinjska alka Museum opened on the eve of the 300th anniversary of the Sinjska alka, when this valuable tradition received its own home. It is located in the Alkarski dvori (Alkar Palace) complex, on the site of the former Venetian Kvartiri, a barracks for Croatian cavalry from 1760, between Petrovac and the Vojvodski dvori (Voivodes' Palace).

The permanent exhibition displays the richly decorated original costumes of the alkars and alkar pages, valuable equipment and weapons, and objects around 300 years old. A special attraction is a life-size display of the alkar procession. Visitors can also experience the battle of 1715 through a multimedia display, see old alkar figures and rulebooks, and watch a documentary film about the history of the alka.
