About the museum
The open-air museum in Topolná illustrates the typical form of houses built of unfired brick (adobe) in the Pomoraví region. The Slovácké muzeum in Uherské Hradiště took over the buildings in 1993. In 1994 the ethnographic collections were deposited here, and in 1996 a new depository was created.
After the floods of 1997 the museum moved an archaeological collection here for drying and conservation. In the same year small farm buildings and an orchard of old varieties were added. Visitors can see cottage no. 93, which shows housing at the end of the 19th century, and in the upper-floor storeroom an exhibition on laundry and fishing.
The site also includes a historic forge, where the local blacksmith worked until the end of the 1930s, a fruit-drying house and an apiary in the orchard, and a replica of a well-sweep lifting device rebuilt in 2023. The second cottage, no. 90, serves the folk ensemble Včelaran as a rehearsal room and a courtyard stage.
