About the museum
The Kehra muuseum is located in the former Kehra railway station building, built in 1897. In 1996 a memorial plaque was installed on the station building, recalling that no further step was retreated from there in the War of Independence. The museum opened in February 2018 and is run by MTÜ Kehra Raudteejaam.
There are two permanent exhibitions: one presents the decisive battles at the beginning of 1919 on the territory of Anija and Kuusalu rural municipalities and the role of armoured trains in them; the other covers the history of Kehra, from a Viking-age treasure find to the cellulose and paper factory. At the turn of the year 1918–1919, both the 1st Division and the staff of the Viru Front were stationed at Kehra station. The interactive photo album contains nearly 700 photographs of life in Kehra.
The museum also has a café.
