About the museum
Luua manor is first mentioned in 1519, and its name comes from the noble Luden family. In 1736 Johan Jakob Strömfelt had a small single-storey baroque building constructed on a high stone foundation. In 1831 Alexander von Oettingen acquired the manor, and the von Oettingens were its owners for almost a century; at the end of the 19th century the main building was extended and a park was laid out. Since 1948 the Luua Metsanduskool has operated in the manor’s main building, and in 1997–2000 the baroque reception rooms were restored.
The museum rooms opened on 9 May 2007 with support from the Environmental Investment Centre. The fireplace room (kaminatuba) is devoted to the history of Luua manor and contains the manor’s only surviving original stove. In the meeting room the history of the forestry school is presented from its early years to the present, and the walls show photographs of the school’s directors and teachers. The von Oettingen room has photographs and a family tree donated by the manor’s owning family; the reading room has old school documents, and the park and the history of the surrounding area.
Also on view are a showcase of awards and souvenirs, a photo album of graduates, a miniature timber-hauling machine, the uniforms of former forest chiefs and certificates. After the visit you can stroll in the manor park, which is known as a dendrological park.
