Mihkli talumuuseum

About the museum

The Mihkli farm museum is in the village of Malvaste in the north of Hiiumaa and is a good example of local rural architecture. The farm complex includes eight historic buildings, most of them dating from the 19th century, as well as an outdoor kitchen with a large terrace, a garden and farmland. The last residents left the farm in 1987; until their deportation in 1781 Hiiumaa Swedes lived here.

In summer the farm hosts traditional events, such as the midsummer eve dance with striped skirts, smoke-sauna evenings and an open-farms day. Sheep, goats, hens, ducks and rabbits live in the farmyard, and in summer there is the Karvakala children’s area for children.

The farmyard is suitable for weddings, seminars, workshops and other events; the outdoor terrace gives shade for up to 45 people and there is a modern kitchen for preparing food. The smoke sauna can be rented separately.
