About the museum
The Narva raekoda (Narva Town Hall) is a 17th-century building in the Dutch Baroque style (architect G. Teuffel), in which German, Swedish and Italian architectural influences are mixed. The town-hall square ensemble originally also included the Börsihoone (exchange building), the town pharmacy and the houses of wealthy Swedish townspeople, but these were destroyed in the Second World War, and the town hall is the only surviving building. After a 24-year break the restored town hall reopened in June 2023.
The Narva tourist information centre operates in the town hall. A guided tour shows the mayor’s representative rooms, the council chamber and the hall for solemn ceremonies. On the ground floor is the virtual reality exhibition “Vana Narva uus elu” (New Life for Old Narva), where, with VR glasses and tablets, visitors can explore the old town that existed before the bombing of 1944.
