About the museum
Ahola is the artists’ home of Juhani Aho (1861–1921) and Venny Soldan-Brofeldt (1863–1945) on the shore of Lake Tuusula in Järvenpää. The museum presents the life and art of the artist couple as part of the Lake Tuusula artists’ community. The site is looked after by the Järvenpää Art Museum as one of the city’s museum sites.
The basic exhibition Minkä mitäkin Aholasta (Something of Everything from Ahola) tells what the house looked like in the Ahos’ time and brings out the family’s everyday life through objects and photographs. On display are, among other things, Juhani Aho’s fishing gear and the skis with which he skied on the ice of Lake Tuusula, as well as Venny Soldan-Brofeldt’s art supplies and drawings made at Ahola.
Visitors can take guided tours that tell of life in the artists’ community, as well as drama tours that transport the visitor back a hundred years. The supporting programme includes, for example, expert lectures and workshops, and the museum shop sells souvenirs related to the artists’ community, books and postcards.
