About the museum

Villa Kokkonen is a house designed by the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto, completed in 1969 on the western shore of Lake Tuusula as the home and workplace of the composer Joonas Kokkonen (1921–1996). The house is protected, and its movable property is part of the museum’s collection.

Villa Kokkonen is looked after by the Järvenpään taidemuseo (Järvenpää Art Museum) as one of the city’s museum sites. The house museum can be visited in summer, from May to the end of September, on public guided tours or on group tours booked separately. The whole visit takes one hour, of which the guided tour takes about 40 minutes; after that the house can be explored freely.

The artist’s home resounds with concerts every month. The two composers’ homes in the Lake Tuusula area, Jean Sibelius’s Ainola and Villa Kokkonen, can also be experienced on a single visit.
