About the museum
The Eurajoen kotiseutuyhdistys (Eurajoki Local Heritage Association) was founded in 1956, and collecting objects began immediately afterwards. 21 people from various parts of the municipality took part in the collecting, and the first objects were kept in the barn of the Eurajoki parsonage. In 1957 the Manttaalikunta donated to the association the former loan-grain storehouse on the church hill of Irjanne, which had been completed in 1833.
The museum opened to the public in 1963 and has been kept open in summer by volunteer work, because the building has no heating. The storehouse has two floors filled with household objects and the tools of various trades, for example shoemaker's and carpenter's implements. In summer, different exhibitions have been shown in the upstairs display cases.
The collection comprises about 1,600 objects. It was almost doubled by the home-museum collection donated by Toivo and Rauha Kuusisto in 1984. The old church of Irjanne stands right next to the museum.
