About the museum

The Haukivuori Local Heritage Museum is located in the church village of Haukivuori, in the old centre of the parish, which has preserved its village structure with administrative buildings. Along the road from the church to the parsonage there is, besides the museum, an old parish hall, a former elementary school and residential buildings from the early 20th century.

The museum operates in an old log-built grain storehouse, which was the municipality’s loan granary. It was opened to the public in 1962, and the Haukivuori Local Heritage Association has looked after it from the start.

The exhibition is on two floors. It displays objects connected with farming, fishing, and the work of the blacksmith and the carpenter, and upstairs there is a section presenting schooling. In the yard stands a windmill built in 1905, which was moved to its present site from Häkkilä village in 1966.
