Heinolan kaupunginmuseo

The museum in the former town hall on Kauppakatu presents the history of Heinola from prehistory to the present day.

Opening hoursAdmission €8 Partially accessible

About the museum

The Heinola City Museum building was originally built for the merchant Ulrik Lindholm. The house served as the town hall from 1898 to 1983, and the museum began there in 1984. The building was renovated in 2018–2019.

The permanent exhibition Made in Heinola tells of the town's history from prehistory to near the present day. The exhibition focuses on objects made in Heinola or used by people of Heinola. On display are, among other things, an updated town model; objects from notable local people such as P. E. Svinhufvud and the band Apulanta; a dialect telephone; and furniture and objects from the 1970s and earlier. A film and sound point lets visitors explore the stories of the town.

For children the museum has a treasure hunt, in which a hidden Hiirulainen figure is sought in every room and stickers are collected on a map.
