About the museum

Hörbergsgården is the museum of the Pellinge local heritage association, on Ölandet near Pellinge chapel. The association founded the museum to preserve and collect information about how people lived in Pellinge in earlier times. The oldest house, Hörbergsgården itself, from the mid-19th century, was moved from Söderby village to its present site in 1963, and after long construction work the museum was inaugurated nine years later, in 1972.

The museum area comprises half a dozen buildings moved from various places in Pellinge. Besides the main building there is a smithy from Rabbas, a stable, a barn, a sheep house and a shore shed. At the shore stand two boathouses where donated boats are stored, and the association has had two boats built in the traditional way, a net boat (notbåt) and an eka. The association’s office is in Maris cottage, which was also moved here from Söderby.

At the museum you can see and experience how people lived in the archipelago in earlier times. During opening hours a photo exhibition with old pictures from Pellinge is shown, and the museum sells Pellinge-related gift items, postcards, books, maps and locally made products.
