About the museum
The Marthastuga is located on the Qvis Vilhelms farm in Vessö in Porvoo. The original pair-house dates from the 18th century and consists of a large room and two chambers with an entrance hall in between. The roof of the large room is supported by heavy roof beams, and the room contains a large baking oven and walls sealed with clay.
In the large room are shown objects that villagers have saved. In the priest’s chamber, which has beautiful blue wallpaper, priests stayed overnight when they held household examinations in the village. The Martha women and their husbands have renovated the cottage and, with the help of professionals, moved the farm’s log storehouse to its present location.
