About the museum
Iisakin Jussin tupa is a peasant museum on Kosolanmäki in Kauhava. The main room building (tupa) represents the South Ostrobothnian building style of the late 19th century, and the room, chambers and upper floor are furnished with original furniture. The master of the farm worked as a prisoner escort (fankiföörari), and prisoners were held at the farm before being taken to Vaasa Castle.
Besides the tupa, the farmyard includes seven other buildings that belonged to a country farm. In the upper floor of the luhti building is a dressed lutti (a sleeping loft), the summer sleeping granary of the host family’s daughter, with textiles. The granary buildings and the stable with its cart shed contain objects from peasant farm life.
Next to it is the Kosolanmäki loan granary from the 1850s, used as an exhibition and event space, and the Veteraanitalo (Veterans’ House) built in 1943. The museum and the veterans’ house are maintained by Kauhava-Seura ry.
