About the museum
Kalan torppa is a museum cottage in Hahtomaa, Kauhava. The first youth association in Finland, the Kauhavan Nuorisoyhtiö, was founded there, and the place is strongly connected to the roots of the youth association movement.
The furnishing of the cottage corresponds to the style of the 1880s. The furniture is partly original and consists of everyday objects donated by the Kala family. The protected memorial (museaalinen muistomerkki) is maintained by Kauhava-Seura ry.
Each year a midsummer festival is held at the cottage, organised jointly by Kauhava-Seura, the South Ostrobothnia Youth Association (Etelä-Pohjanmaan Nuorisoseura) and the museum services of the City of Kauhava.
