About the museum
Kalapuro is a farm in the village of Tuovilanlahti in Maaninka, whose history goes back to the 19th century. The Virtala family owned the farm from the late 19th century, and since 2016 the Tuovilanlahti youth association has used the farm. The youth association also acts as the village association.
The oldest parts of the main building, the tupa (main room) and the entrance hall, date from the late 1880s, and the tupa was originally a smoke sauna. The other end of the building was built in 1914. The farmyard includes a granary (aitta), a clothes store, an old stable, the maids' granary and a threshing barn (riihi) dating from the 19th century. A new cowshed was built in 1934 and a sauna in the 1950s. The smoke sauna cabin serves as a meeting space, and the space can be rented for celebrations.
