About the museum
The collection of the Karstula local heritage museum comprises about 2,000 objects, which depict life in the Karstula area during and after the Finnish War in the 19th century. On the second floor of the museum are furnishings from Karstula’s first church, and downstairs are dairy objects from the days of the Karstula Cooperative Dairy (Karstulan Osuusmeijeri).
The museum also has equipment related to hunting and wilderness culture (eräkulttuuri), fishing and hunting, household utensils used in homes, and many weapons from the time of the Finnish War. The museum’s permanent exhibition was renewed in 2016–2020 with grants from the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museovirasto) and the Konsta and Irene Heino Foundation.
