About the museum

The Suonenjoen kotiseutumuseo (Suonenjoki Local Heritage Museum) is located in Wanha, the old town centre, near Suonenjoki church. The museum building was built in 1891 as the parish grain storehouse, and originally there were two storehouses. Grain loan operations (lainajyvästö) in the storehouses ended in the 1950s, when one of the storehouses was converted into a museum.

The museum committee, established for the agricultural exhibition of 1953, assembled a wide collection of objects from the countryside. The Suonenjoen Maamiesseura (Suonenjoki Farmers’ Association) donated the collection to the town in the mid-1980s. The museum also contains objects that private individuals later donated.

The museum’s basic collection includes tools and household goods.
