About the museum
Lintukoto (Bird House) is a permanent exhibition of glass birds designed by the artist and professor Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) in the Nuutajärvi glass village in Urjala. Toikka's birds were made in Nuutajärvi for more than 40 years. The first birds to go into serial production, the Siepot, took flight in 1972, and from then on the birds began their journey around the world.
The exhibition tells the story of both the birds and Oiva Toikka. The objects consist of birds owned by the Nuutajärvi glass village cultural foundation and already in the village, individual pieces lent from other collections, and donated birds received through a collection drive, which is ongoing. The exhibition also includes a bird tower, which can be reached only by stairs.
