About the museum
The Kettumäki local heritage house is a log house designed by Lars Sonck, located on the slope of Kettumäki in Kuusankoski. It was originally built in 1897 as a school for small children at the Kymi works, on the edge of a steep cliff, and was known as the Norjalaiskoulu (Norwegian School) and Mäkikoulu (Hill School). Kymiyhtiö donated the former school to the market town of Kuusankoski as a local heritage and museum house by a deed of gift dated 30 September 1955.
The building was moved to Kettumäki in 1957 and opened to the public the following year. The house is now owned by the City of Kouvola, and Kuusankoski-Seura ry has maintained the building and the local heritage museum in it since 1995.
The house is open to travellers and museum visitors from May to September. The large classroom serves as the venue for changing art and cultural history exhibitions, and the house hosts numerous events. Nearby are the Kettumäen kansanpuisto (public park) and relocated workers’ houses.
