About the museum
The museum’s collection began in the 1970s, when Erwin and Marja-Leena Stämpfli-Heinola and Kaitsu Niemi started model railway hobbies as a private project. The museum has operated as a collection since 2003. It is a family business that runs without public support, relying on visitors and a number of volunteers.
The museum is located near Kouvola railway station, in the old wooden school building of VR (Finnish Railways) along the pedestrian street. The collection includes model railways in all scales from Z to G, from historical rarities to modern digital control. On display are, among others, products by Märklin, Fleischmann, ROCO, BRIO, Meccano, BING and LEGO. The building also houses the Onkapannu museum café.
