About the museum

The Kimmo Pyykkö Art Museum opened at the beginning of 2015 in the centre of Kangasala, in Kangasala House. The museum is named after the sculptor and professor Kimmo Pyykkö. Kangasala House is a sculptural concrete building designed by the architectural office Heikkinen-Komonen. It has received several architecture awards, including the 2015 Concrete Structure of the Year award. The building consists of four erratic boulders whose shape was inspired by the esker landscapes of the area.

The museum's permanent exhibition, Pitkän matkan ateljee (The Atelier of a Long Journey), tells the story of Kimmo Pyykkö's multifaceted artistic career in the Finnish art scene, from his childhood and youth in Kangasala, through his art training in Helsinki, to a career spanning decades. In addition, the museum organises several changing exhibitions every year, presenting high-quality Finnish visual art on two floors.
