About the museum

Kinnalan Koukku is an estate in Kiikka, now part of Sastamala, which is about 200 years old and has been owned by the Koukku family for some two hundred years. In the farmyard there is a private Civil Guard (suojeluskunta) and lotta (Lotta Svärd) museum, which was assembled by the former master of the farm, Kaarlo Koukku, as a result of his collecting hobby.

The exhibition covers the wars of independent Finland, beginning with the War of Liberation, and national defence in war and peace in 1918–1944. On display are pictures, rank insignia, cards, maps and objects from the War of Liberation, the Winter War and the Continuation War. The headquarters room of the Kiikka Civil Guard has been furnished in the mood of 1943, and it features three Kiikka lottas at their posts in original uniforms. The museum also holds a considerable amount of material relating to Mannerheim.

The estate also offers coffee, meal, party, meeting and accommodation services, as well as a smoke sauna (savusauna).
