About the museum
Seppo Kotajärvi, born in Vammala, began collecting decommissioned agricultural machinery in the 1980s. The collection focused above all on tractors, the oldest of which are early-1920s models. At its best the collection had about three hundred tractors, and a large part of them were donated to the Sarka-museo (Sarka Museum). When Kotajärvi died in 2007, a little over a hundred tractors, about forty cars and some ten combine harvesters remained.
The museum's operations are continued by the Seppo J. Kotajärvi Foundation, established in accordance with Kotajärvi's will, whose work is based on volunteering. The City of Vammala offered premises to the museum for several years, after which operations moved to Roismala, along the Punkalaitumentie. The museum was closed during a thorough renovation.
A new, entirely renewed exhibition opened in May 2023 in central Sastamala, in the former exhibition hall of a car dealership at Itsenäisyydentie 5. On display are passenger cars, tractors, motorcycles, bicycles, scale models and other objects relating to vehicles and the mechanisation of the countryside. The collections also include musical instruments, stuffed animals and paintings, among other things.
