About the museum
Kinnarin kotimuseo comprises the buildings and farmyard of an early 19th-century Häme farmhouse in Sotkia, Akaa. The main building of the closed courtyard (umpipiha) dates from 1815, and the list of the farm's masters is known from 1539. The Kinnari family has lived on the farm since 1856, and the farm has operated as a museum since 1988.
In an authentic setting, old objects and home heritage are on display. In the luhti (granary) there are work and household tools related to rural everyday life, which illustrate the self-sufficient way of life of earlier times. The log storehouse (hirsilato) holds farm machinery from the horse-powered era, and the collection includes many old skis and wooden shovels. In the garden and farmyard of the house, more than 200 years old, many old heritage plants can be found, labelled with name signs.
