About the museum
Lastenvaunumuseo Mukelo was founded in 2010 in the village of Riitiälä in Viiala, Akaa. It is the only pram museum in the Nordic countries. The exhibition is housed in the roughly 230-year-old main building of the Toorikka farm, the oldest house in Viiala. The red-painted log house stands in a rural landscape along the village street of Riitiälä.
The museum's objects consist mainly of a collection assembled by the owner, made up of Finnish and European prams from the 1800s to the present day. The collection includes about 300 prams from the 1870s to the 2000s, among them English Silver Cross prams, for example. Not all the prams fit on display, so the collection on view varies.
The exhibition shows what the earliest prams of wealthy gentry families were like and how they changed as manufacturing became industrialised. During a museum visit you can hear the owner's guidance on the collection.
