About the museum
The Sääksmäen kotiseutumuseo is maintained by Sääksmäki-seura ry, a local heritage association founded in 1948. When the Municipality of Sääksmäki was merged into the City of Valkeakoski in 1973, the association continued to keep the traditions of old Sääksmäki alive.
The museum is located on Kirkonmäki hill. Its central building is the Molka farmhouse, which was moved from the Saarioinen side to Kirkonmäki in 1951. A storehouse brought from Kasuri is also on the site. The museum displays original objects from the Sääksmäki of old.
The museum is open in summer, and at other times visits are arranged in advance. The museum hosts heritage days and coffee gatherings, for example in connection with a church festival Sunday (kirkkopyhä).
