About the museum
Located in the immediate vicinity of Kuusamo centre, on the shore of Torankijärvi, the museum area depicts the life of a Kuusamo local farmer family (selkostalonpoika) in the 1930s. The main livelihoods were farming, livestock and reindeer herding, and hunting and fishing.
The museum's farmyard includes 16 buildings, including the Pulkkanen's pirtti (Pulkkanen's living room), the Rävä house, a cowshed and a horse shed (tallipuoji). The area also has other buildings belonging to former farmyards, as well as a temporary post-war dwelling moved to the site in 2015. The buildings were donated from various parts of Kuusamo.
A museum visit includes expert guided tours, and the museum can also be explored with the digital Atla guide. In summer the museum hosts concerts and other events.
