About the museum

Päätalo-keskus is the exhibition space of the Päätalo Institute of Taivalkoski municipality, which operates in the same building as the library. The centre presents the work and life of the writer Kalle Päätalo; his childhood home, Kallioniemi, is a museum site of its own in Taivalkoski.

The permanent exhibition is a replica of Kalle Päätalo's study, in which the objects are in their original places. A changing photo and display-case exhibition tells of the writer's life, and its theme changes every two years. The touch screen holds about 250 pictures in eleven subject areas, for example the writer's homes, forest work, wartime, construction work, writing, and plays and films. Films can also be watched in the exhibition, and the writer's surroundings and study can be explored virtually.

The Päätalo Institute organises writing courses and the Napero-Finlandia story competition for primary school pupils.

Admission & discounts

Museum Card accepted. Epassi and Edenred are also accepted as payment methods. Guided tours for groups: €100 for the first hour and €50 for each additional hour, plus a group admission fee.
