About the museum
Myllysaari Museum operates in an old factory building in the centre of Valkeakoski. It is a professionally run cultural history local museum that preserves, researches and conveys knowledge of the history of the Valkeakoski region, folk life and cultural history, and especially of the history and tradition of the local paper and other industries. The museum is part of the Europe-wide industrial heritage route.
The museum's permanent exhibition, Vana, tells of the history of Valkeakoski. The museum's speciality is a genuine gondola, which the director of Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat Oy acquired in 1963 for the invited guests of that year's industry and agriculture exhibition. The gondola came to Myllysaari Museum in 1997, and it is now on display in the restaurant hall.
On the third floor of the building operates the Finnish Football Museum (Suomen Jalkapallomuseo), which can be visited on the same admission ticket. The museum shop sells products on the theme of Valkeakoski and local publications, and in the lobby is the order and party restaurant Myllysaari.
