About the museum
Nikkisen torppa in the Suomenniemi church village belonged from the late 1800s to police constable (konstaapeli) Matti Nikkinen (1860–1943). The building served as a library from the 1920s until 1950. The Suomenniemi Local Heritage Association began to collect objects for the croft and opened it to the public in 1981.
The croft passed into the ownership of the City of Mikkeli in the municipal merger of 2013. Temporary exhibitions are held in the croft's chamber.
