About the museum
Pattoi is a typical prosperous farm of the region, about 10 kilometres from the centre of Juva. The traditional buildings of the farm are in their original condition. The yard contains a boarded main building dating from the 1860s, a row of storehouses (aittarivi), a log building with dovetail corners and a grain storehouse, as well as a stone cowshed and a two-storey stable. Outside the yard there are a smithy, a sauna and a threshing barn (riihi). The fields around the buildings are enclosed by fences on stone foundations.
The Nikulainen family owned Pattoi from the early 19th century to the 1990s. When the last member of the family died, the farm passed to the state, and Juva municipality bought it in 2004 in order to preserve the farm and turn it into a museum.
The farm was restored in various projects in 2005–2010, together with the Juva Museum and Local Heritage Association. Objects, buildings and plants have been catalogued, and the buildings and walls have been restored. The grounds are open to visitors all year round, for self-guided visits.
