About the museum
The Juva museum operates in the main building of Partala royal manor, near the church village of Juva, on the Männynmäki ridge. The site has been inhabited since the end of the Iron Age, and between 1555 and 1561 Partala was a royal manor founded by Gustav Vasa. The present main building dates from the mid-19th century, and the other buildings of the yard are mainly from the early 20th century. The estate has been owned by the municipality of Juva since 1919.
Museum activity in the main building began in 1992. The museum collections comprise more than 3,000 objects related to the land and household, which are owned by Juvan Kotiseutu- ja museoyhdistys ry. The basic exhibition follows the development of the old mother parish from a church village into a service centre and a municipality that looks after its residents.
In the same yard, in the former workers’ quarters (väentupa), the Juva Karelians’ museum has operated since 1980. Its collection consists of everyday objects that the Karelian resettled people who settled in Juva brought with them after the Winter War and the Continuation War. On display are, among other things, furniture, a wealth of textiles and tools related to farming and livestock keeping. The same ticket also gives access to the exhibitions of Galleria Kuninkaankartano.
