About the museum
The Rosenlew-museo operates in the state grain storehouse built in the 1860s in the Aittaluoto industrial area in Pori. The storehouse, designed by the provincial architect G. T. Chiewitz, is the oldest surviving building in the area. Later it served as a warehouse for the paper mill and as the garage of the Rosenlew company, and in 1941 an air-raid shelter for the factory workers was built deep inside it.
In 1984 the company set up an unheated museum in the building, which displayed the collections of Olavi Koskinen. In 2003 UPM sold the building to the City of Pori for €1, and the Satakunnan Museo (Satakunta Museum) took responsibility for the building and its collections. After an EU-funded renovation the present museum was opened in 2006; the project was carried out in cooperation with the University of Turku and the Björneborgs svenska kulturfond foundation.
The basic exhibition Perheyhtiön aika (The Age of the Family Company) tells of the history and production of the diversified Rosenlew company from 1853 to 1987. The museum belongs to the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).
