About the museum
The Saloisten kotiseutumuseo (Saloisten Local Heritage Museum) is a large ensemble of 18 buildings on Arkkukarintie. The buildings and objects mainly tell of the traditional livelihoods of the Saloisten area: fishing and farming. The museum area has, among other things, a blacksmith’s forge, Anttila Eera’s fishing cabin, and the old pirtti building of the Mutala farm, whose building history goes back to 1791. The magnificent windmill once belonged to the buildings of the Tokola farm.
The museum was originally founded by the Saloisten kotiseutu- ja museoyhdistys (Saloisten Local Heritage and Museum Association), established in 1965, whose task was to collect and preserve objects, as well as information and image material, that illuminate the past of the Saloisten parish. Today the museum belongs to the Raahe Museum Service (Raahen museotoimi).
The museum is open in summer, and in early August the traditional St Olav’s Day market is held at the museum.
