About the museum
The museum opened to the public in 1993 and is based on the private accordion collection of Tauno Ylönen. The oldest instrument on display is a German bass accordion from 1850. The harmonica section was added in 2001. The museum is run by the Suomen Harmonikkamuseoyhdistys ry association.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum has a theme exhibition that changes every year; in 2026 the theme was the career of Erkki Friiman. Books, magazines and sheet music on accordion themes are sold at the museum.
