About the museum
The Finnish Jäger Museum in Kortesjärvi is Finland's only museum devoted to the Jäger movement and therefore focuses centrally on the events of Finland's path to independence. The museum is run by the City of Kauhava.
The permanent exhibition traces the history of the Jäger movement through photographs, interviews, videos and films. All of the almost 2,000 Jägers are represented, but the exhibition looks more closely at a few dozen young men, their thoughts and their fates. The exhibition uses audiovisual technology, which for example conveys the Jägers' training at Lockstedt in 1916 to visitors. Diaries, letters and postcards can be listened to and viewed, and in the Jäger interviews elderly gentlemen recall their youth.
Original Jäger uniforms, Jäger passports, coins, a machine gun and other weapons, decorations and the Jägers' identification tags are on display. The museum also has the LOLA café and a museum shop, and the Jääkärit 360° virtual presentation complements the visit.
