About the museum

The Tyrnävä Local Heritage Museum is a museum complex on Pytinkitie that focuses on the history of farming. Construction of the museum area began in 1967, and it is kept in good condition through voluntary community work (talkoot). The museum is run by the Tyrnävän Kotiseutu- ja museoyhdistys ry (association). There are 14 buildings in the area in total, the oldest of them from the 1760s.

The buildings have been moved to the area from various parts of Tyrnävä. Tihisen pytinki, which serves as the local heritage house, is a smoke cabin built in the first half of the 18th century and moved to the area in 1985. Kestin luhti dates from 1766. Other buildings include Rauhion savusauna (smoke sauna), a smithy, granaries, the Männikön riihi (threshing barn), a pärehöylä, a firewood shed, a well with a windlass and a milk stand. At the far end of the area, an agricultural machinery museum has also been opened.

The object museum of Tyrnävä operates by the church on Muhostie, in a former loan-grain storehouse built in the 1860s, which was opened for museum use in 1951. The local heritage museum is mainly open in summer.
