About the museum
The Verla groundwood and board mill is the only forest-industry site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The factory made board from spruce, and its machines are still in their original places. Production continued using old methods until 1964.
The factory became Finland’s first factory museum in 1972, and it was accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The site is also an anchor site of the Kymenlaakso Industrial Heritage Route. The area also has a workers’ housing district with old residential buildings and craftsmen’s shops.
A museum tour lasts about one hour. Tours start on the hour, and the last tour of the day starts at closing time.
