About the museum
Milling has been carried on at the Vihavuoden rapids, on the border between Hauho and Luopioinen, since as early as 1433. The Rekola miller family ran the mill from 1635 to 1938. The Hauho-Seura ry association bought the area in 1961 and converted it into a museum.
The museum area includes the log mill building with its interior fittings, the miller’s cottage, a residential building from the 19th century, a storehouse built in 1849 and a lakeside sauna from the 1960s. The water wheel and the power-transmission equipment are missing. Next to the museum is the Piippu terrace café, which is open in summer.
