About the museum
The Yli-Lauroselan talomuseo is a building complex from the 19th century, near the centre of Ilmajoki. The Lauroselan main farm has been inhabited since at least the 17th century, and later the farm was divided into Ala-Lauroselan and Yli-Lauroselan. According to the date carved into the foundation stone, the two-storey main building was built in 1848. It is a representative example of Ostrobothnian log-building craftsmanship, in which the peasant tradition meets the stylistic features of the Empire style.
The property passed into state ownership and the administration of the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museovirasto) in 1971. The agency restored the buildings in 1972–1977, and the house museum opened to the public in 1978. The rooms of the main building are furnished in the style of the early 20th century with objects from Ilmajoki, some of which are the house's original furniture.
The yard is bordered by nine outbuildings: a luttirati, a smithy, a vellisauna, a puuliiveri, a barn, a cart and tool shed, the hyysit, a stable and a cowshed. A special feature is the curved-gable board roofs of the main building, the stable and the luttirati. A museum café operates in connection with the house museum in summer.
