About the museum
The Alte Welt Museum in Nußbach (Palatinate) opened on March 15, 2002. Since then, members of the Fördervereins Alte Welt Museum Nußbach (friends' association) have run it on a volunteer basis. It is housed in the Haus Wildanger in the "Zentrum der Alten Welt," on the third floor and in the attic.
It is not a conventional local history museum but a theme museum focused on flax: from sowing through processing and hand weaving to finished linen. Another part is devoted to the history of Nußbach and the Alte Welt. The aim is to keep the traditions of flax processing, spinning and hand weaving alive and to introduce young visitors to them in particular.
Visitors may break flax, spin, or weave ribbons. In 2025, flax was grown on site for the first time, and it is now processed in the museum.
