About the museum
The Historische Sammlung Haselau (Haselau historical collection) in the Elbe marshes in the district of Pinneberg came about from the wish to preserve the community's cultural heritage. The idea goes back to the time of village renewal but long failed for lack of space. On March 17, 1998, 15 residents founded the association “Verein für Sammlung und Erhalt historischer Gegenstände” (Association for the Collection and Preservation of Historical Objects). The project became possible when the old fire station became vacant after a new fire station was built.
The collection now comprises over 1,200 exhibits, the oldest dating from 1697. House 1 is the former fire station on the Haseldorfer Chaussee; larger pieces stand in House 2, the former “Durchfahrt Wüstenberg” (Wüstenberg passageway) about 50 meters away. The association, which had over 80 members in 2025, also looks after the village green next to House 2.
The focus is on old crafts and everyday history of the Haseldorf marsh: a group from the association demonstrates the rope-making of the Reepschläger (ropemakers), and part of the collection recalls the Bandreißer (hoopmakers), who made barrel hoops for butter churns from willow rods. The collection has been included in the “Museumsführer Schleswig-Holstein” (Schleswig-Holstein museum guide).
