About the museum
The local history museum of Eltze, a district of Uetze, is located in the former Catholic church of St. Petrus on Breslauer Straße. The church building was erected in 1959 and deconsecrated in 1999; the Heimatverein Eltze, founded in 1980, acquired the building in 2000 and set up its museum there.
On roughly 200 square meters the exhibition documents local history. Its central piece is a loom about 150 years old, around which a spinning wheel, yarn reel and clothing from around 1880 are grouped. Further sections show ceramics and tableware, sewing machines and typewriters, kitchen and living room furnishings, a 19th-century shoemaker's workshop, a shop fitting from 1921, and a stone collection with tools from the Stone Age. A life-size doll bridal couple in festive dress counts among the favorite pieces.
The association is particularly proud of the local documentation, which, with charters, banners and coats of arms, reaches back to the year 1226. The museum is run by volunteers; a former fire station acquired in 2015 additionally houses a historic 1959 hose wagon.
