About the museum
Karl Zimmermann, a master sheet-metal worker and paint sprayer born in 1940, has been restoring old vehicles and machines since 1968. This passion grew into a private collection, which he opened to the public as a museum in Nantenbach, a district of Neuendorf.
At first only about 200 square metres were available. In 1988 the collection moved into a larger hall next to the family's motor workshop; since then the museum has shown, on about 800 square metres, around 50 production and racing motorcycles, bicycles from running bikes to penny-farthings, cars, engines and aero engines, several racing boats, as well as cameras, audio technology and a 1920s workshop installation.
A particular source of pride is a horizontal MAN steam engine from 1912 with a five-metre flywheel, which was in service until 1990 and still runs for demonstrations. Visitors have included numerous former motorcycle racers, for example from DKW and MZ. The museum is run by Karl Zimmermann GmbH.
