About the museum

The museum goes back to the initiative of private collector and physician Dr. Eugen Nätscher. Today the collection is housed in the former Protestant elementary school of 1894, next to the church in the village center of Partenstein. Across three floors it shows rural life, domestic culture around 1900 and the early industry of a Spessart community.

Agriculture was the basis of the food supply until the 20th century despite poor soil. Equipment for sowing, harvesting and transport bears witness to fieldwork. Added to this are household tools for churning butter, baking, pressing cider and washing, as well as a section on textile production from flax to linen, with a large loom in the attic. A parlor and a bedroom from around 1920 show the living style of the time.

Another focus is local industry: cardboard, weaving, shoes and wood processing, but above all barite mining between 1860 and 1948, which a reconstructed mine-adit entrance and mining equipment in the basement illustrate. A doll and doll-carriage exhibition, finds, and a model of Partenstein Castle, destroyed in the 17th century, complete the tour. A cultural trail leads from the museum to the former mining site.
