About the museum
The Kehdinger Küstenschiffahrts-Museum is devoted to coastal and river shipping on the lower Elbe. For a long time Wischhafen was an important harbor town for coastal shipping. The museum is housed in a historic grain store behind the dike and was built up by volunteers on a private initiative.
The first floor covers shipbuilding and coastal shipping in the region, shown through ship models, workshop equipment, tools and engines. The second floor is devoted to life and work on board, with a wheelhouse and a full-size hatch as well as the galley, mess and crew cabin of a small coastal vessel. The museum also includes a harbor museum with a coastal motor ship.
