Runs during the renovation of the Lutherhaus with no announced end date.

About the museum

Elector John Frederick, together with the university, had this three-story scholar's house on Collegienstraße built in 1536 to keep Philip Melanchthon in Wittenberg. The humanist – Luther's closest ally and a pioneer of Protestant education – lived here with his family until his death in 1560. With its late Gothic windows and stepped gable, the Renaissance building is considered one of the finest townhouses in the city.

After Melanchthon's death, the house served as a residence for university professors. His study, the room in which he also died, was shown to visitors as early as 1810; in 1845 the building passed into Prussian ownership, and renovations uncovered wall paintings.

The house has been a museum since 1954. Following a redesign in the 1990s, it underwent a comprehensive restoration completed in 2013 and was supplemented by a modern extension on the neighboring plot, which provides space for exhibitions and museum education. Since 1996, the Melanchthonhaus has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Luther Memorials in Eisleben and Wittenberg." It is run by the Stiftung Luthergedenkstätten in Sachsen-Anhalt; the exhibition also includes a garden of medicinal and culinary herbs.
